The Maserati Bora stands as one of the most significant milestones in the brand’s history, marking Maserati’s transition into the era of mid-engined grand touring cars. Introduced in the early 1970s, it combined Italian design excellence with advanced engineering, offering a refined alternative to the more aggressive supercars of its time. Its clean, timeless lines were penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, resulting in a silhouette that remains both distinctive and understated.
We are offering this 1972 Maserati Bora 4.7, first… registered in October 1972 and presented in the elegant and highly period-correct shade of Blu Chiaro Metallizzato (Bleu Celeste), complemented by a black leather interior. As with all Bora models, it features the characteristic brushed stainless steel roof, a subtle yet iconic design element that enhances its unique presence.
This example is powered by the desirable 4.7-litre V8, delivering 310 horsepower through a 5-speed manual gearbox. Only 289 units were produced with this engine, making it the rarer and more sought-after configuration among collectors. The Bora was also notable for its advanced features at the time, including a hydraulic system developed in collaboration with Citroën, operating the pedals, seats, and pop-up headlights, further underlining its technical sophistication.
The car benefits from a complete body-off restoration carried out between 2018 and 2020, with approximately €26,500 in documented invoices, supported by a comprehensive photographic file. Since completion, the vehicle has covered only around 100 kilometres, ensuring a presentation and driving experience that closely reflects the quality of the restoration. The odometer currently reads 32,750 kilometres.
Originally part of the renowned Serge Pozzoli collection, this Bora offers an added layer of provenance that will appeal to discerning enthusiasts. It has been registered under its current French ownership since January 2021.
Further highlights include its original Campagnolo stainless steel wheels and the presence of its original “Use and Maintenance” booklet, both valuable elements contributing to the car’s authenticity and collectability.
The Maserati Bora is widely regarded as one of the most usable classic supercars of its era, combining performance, comfort, and exclusivity in a way few contemporaries could match. Well-preserved and correctly restored examples such as this are increasingly difficult to source, particularly in such a refined colour combination and with desirable provenance.
