Mercedes 500 SL R107 with only 2 owners since 1985.
Rare and particularly sought-after, this 1985 Mercedes 500 SL is one of the most desirable versions of the R107 range.
Exported from Germany to California in 1985, our example has had only two owners, the first of whom kept it for nearly 38 years. It also benefits from documented mileage records dating… back to 2000 with a mileage of 126 000 miles.
The 500 SL represents the top of the R107 range and stands out with its remarkable 5.0-litre V8 developing 245 hp, paired with a 4-speed automatic gearbox. This European-specification model was produced in only 143 examples for France.
With only 11,812 examples produced, out of a total of 237,287 SLs, the 500 SL is today one of the most sought-after and valuable versions of the R107 family.
Its V8 engine, featuring a double timing chain, is renowned for its performance, robustness and reliability. With 245 hp, its performance remains perfectly up to date: 225 km/h top speed and 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.3 seconds.
Our example is finished in an elegant Corneol Red, code 587, which has been particularly well preserved.
The bodywork is in very good condition, with no significant dents or scratches. The paintwork presents very well and the chassis is clean, with no corrosion.
The interior is also in very good condition, with no significant signs of wear.
The car is fitted with its black soft top, which was replaced a few years ago and is currently in excellent condition.
It also comes with its original hardtop, painted in the same colour as the bodywork. This configuration allows the car to be enjoyed throughout the year, with open-top driving during the warmer months and the protection of the hardtop in winter.
A major service has recently been carried out by a Mercedes specialist, at a cost of €6,500, with an invoice provided.

La Mercedes-Benz 190SL est présentée en 1954 au salon de New York. La marque allemande souhaite conquérir une part du marché florissant des roadsters outre-Atlantique.
La nouvelle génération de SL W113 remplace deux modèles : la 190SL et la 300SL. Son style est léger et dynamique. Le roadster SL s’impose comme un modèle clé dans la gamme Mercedes.
La série 107 relève le défi de remplacer la très réussie SL Pagode lancée en 1963. À son lancement en 1971, la SL R107 n’est mue que par des motorisations V8, 3.5 pour l’Europe mais déjà 4.5 pour l’Amérique du Nord. La voiture adoptera une variante à moteur 6 cylindres pour les marchés européens en 1974, et fera évoluer ses moteurs V8 pour les rendre moins gloutons.
Mercedes décide de prolonger sa carrière en présentant un face-lift
et de nouvelles motorisations au salon de Francfort
1985. Cette ultime évolution, couronné par la version
560SL développée pour le marché nord-américain, va
permettre à la série 107 de finir sa carrière en apothéose. Après
18 ans de carrière, la relève arrive au salon de Genève 1989 sous les
traits de la nouvelle SL R129.
